a. First article inspection (see 4.3).
b. Conformance inspection (see 4.4).
4.2 Mechanical and visual inspection. The equipment shall be subjected to a thorough
mechanical and visual inspection to determine that all materials, workmanship, and safety
characteristics comply with the specified requirements. Attention shall be given to the following
specified requirements:
a. Completeness.
b. Nameplates, identification marking, labels.
c. Alignment and tightness.
d. Finish.
e. Fit and placement of components.
f. Operation of connectors, switches, controls.
g. Mountings and brackets.
h. Fastening and securing of devices and parts.
i. Accessibility of components and parts.
j. Welded and soldered joints and connections.
k. Forms, harnesses, and wiring.
l. Grounding connections.
m. Safety examinations.
n. Workmanship.
4.3 First article inspection. A first article inspection shall be performed by the contractor,
after award of contract and prior to production. The first article inspection shall be performed on
sample units which have been produced with equipment and procedures normally used in
production.
